Esther Elaine Thomsen

Esther Elaine (Sebade) Thomsen, 97, formerly of Pender, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus, NE. Funeral services for Esther will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church west of Pender, NE. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and will run until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender, NE. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Cards may be sent to Sharlene Seipel, 59 W. Sandy Ridge Rd., Columbus, NE 68601. Esther was born to Henry and Anna (Frey) Sebade on March 20, 1925, in Thurston County. She was baptized and on April 1939 was confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church, Emerson, Nebraska. Esther’s confirmation verse was St John 8:12. She attended Emerson Public School, graduating in 1942. Following graduation, she went to work for the Walthill ASC office. On July 7, 1943, Esther married Darold J. Thomsen, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. To this union three children were born, Roger, Sharlene, and Dennis. They farmed in Thurston and Wayne County until moving to Walthill, NE, where she worked at Walthill Public Schools for fifteen years. Upon retirement in 1989, they moved to Pender, Nebraska. She loved to travel, camp, crafts, play cards, loved to bake, and cook. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Walthill, NE. Most of all she enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Esther is survived by a daughter, Sharlene (Joe) Seipel, of Duncan Lakes, Columbus, NE; Son, Dennis (Deb) Thomsen of Dublin, GA; nine grandchildren; sixteen grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Densil Sebade of Emerson, NE. Esther was preceded in death by, her husband, Darold J. Thomsen; parents Henry and Anna (Frey) Sebade; son, Roger G. Thomsen and daughter-in-law Janice Thomsen; sisters, Violet (Earl) Johnson and Geraldine (Darrel) Zeisler; brothers, Eugene (Maribelle) Sebade, and Thomas (Marlice) Sebade; sister-in-law, LaDonna Sebade; and a step-grandson, Robert Gatzemeyer.
