Eugene A Swanson

Eugene Swanson, 98, of Wakefield, NE, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Wakefield Health Care Center. Memorial services will be Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Wakefield; Pastor Jill Craig will be officiating. A memorial visitation will be Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. The inurnment with military honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Gene was born May 25, 1921 in Wakefield to Aaron and Mabel (Lennart) Swanson. He graduated from Allen High School in 1937 at the age of 16. After high school, he worked at a lumber company. Gene married Phyllis Clough on May 25, 1943 at the Presbyterian Church in Wakefield before joining the Army Air Corps. During WWII he was stationed in central Europe. Upon his return, Gene began farming and selling seed corn. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a member of the American Legion, and the tree board. He is survived by his daughter, Claudia Racely of Wayne, NE; sister, Coreen Bard of Wakefield, NE; and grandchildren, Taylor Racely of Omaha, NE and Stephanie (Tad) Judge of Atkinson, NE. Gene was preceded in death by parents; wife, Phyllis Swanson; son, Jeffery Swanson; son-in-law, Jason Racely; sister, Miriam and Louise; brothers, Stan and LeRoy.
