Frances Darlene (Nieman) Morgan, 92, of Columbus, NE, formerly of Winnebago, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE; with Pastor Dan Nieman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE.
Frances was born on October 21, 1927, in Homer, NE to Wilhelm and Paulina (Jones) Nieman. She attended school through 9th grade and lived on a farm near Winnebago, NE. On February 25, 1944, Frances married Melvin “Pud” Morgan in Dakota City, NE. To this union the couple had five children. The couple continued living on the farm until they moved to Oakland, NE in 1980. In 1998, she moved to Columbus, to live near her daughter.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Winnebago/Walthill where she taught Sunday school for many years and served as an elder for the church. Frances was an excellent cook, especially known for her fried chicken and homemade gravy. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances was a dedicated farm wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, known as (GG). She took great pride in keeping her Buicks (mostly white) immaculate that she drove over the years.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin in 1989; son, Bill in 1995; daughter, Betty in 2006; son, Russell in 2018; step-daughter, Lila Ann in 1971, great grandson, Blaine Morgan in 2001; grandson-in-law, Mike Bell in 2015; great-great grandson, Auvy Buck in 2019; and three brothers.
Frances is survived by two daughters, Mary (Jerry) Walker of Spring, TX, Velma (Dan) Lueders of Columbus, NE; son-in-law, Wes Knecht of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Berg of Thurston, NE; twelve grandchildren, Tammy (Azeez) Knecht Jaffer, Sheila (Greg)
Schmitt, Michael (Andrea) Knecht, Michele Bell, Lisa Walker, Jeremy (Angela) Walker, JJ (Tracie) Morgan, Matt (Tami) Morgan, Luke Morgan, Brent (Trisha) Lueders, Stacey (Scott) Langmack, and Josh (Melanie) Lueders; 27 great grandchildren, Alex (Nicole) Ramm, Dara Schmitt, Aaron Schmitt, Libby Watson, Veronica Knecht, Charlie Knecht, Mya Bell, Bijou Bell, Sara Buck, Payton Walker, Dillion (Nikki) Martin, Chace Morgan, Brice Morgan, Quinn Morgan, Nash Morgan, Kree Morgan, Hunter Morgan, Hudson Morgan, Logan Morgan, Jayden Lueders, Garrett Lueders, Morgan Langmack, Blake Langmack, Cole Langmack, Kallie Langmack, Ryanne Lueders, Colter Lueders; three great-great grandchildren, Troy Ramm, Colton Ramm, Edison Martin; three sisters, Catherine Charles of Ferndale, WA, Betty Lou (John) Bunch, Judy Derochie of Sioux City, IA; brother, Donald Nieman of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
