George Edward Berner, Jr., 57, of Emerson passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE; with Pastor Gary Harris officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Winside, NE. George was born December 19, 1960 in Portsmouth, VA to George, Sr. and Marcella (Lambrecht) Berner. He graduated from Logan View High School in Hooper, NE in 1979. George worked for Platte Chemical in Fremont for 8 years, Blue Jet in Thurston for 20 years, and was currently working for Heritage Gas Station in Emerson. He loved being outside around wildlife. George enjoyed fishing and going to Benkelman for deer hunting trips. George began raising show pigeons and eventually began raising rabbits. He loved raising the rabbits so much he was nicknamed the “Rabbit Man.” He judged 4-H and rabbit shows while traveling and selling them internationally. He was a member of the ARBA and the Mid-City Rabbit Club in Yankton. George is survived by his mother, Marcella Berner of Hooper, NE; daughter, Annie Roberts of Emerson, NE; sister, Ragena (Rory) Sommerer of Fremont, NE; brothers, Jeffery (Renee) Berner of Nickerson, Ne, Gregory (Jody) Berner of Hooper, NE, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He is preceded in death by his father, George.
