Glen Dale Doupnik, 92, of Pender, NE passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. The visitation will be Monday, August 9, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Pender. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Father Jerry Leise as the Celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.
Glen was born on May 23, 1929, in rural Thurston, NE to John F. and Albina (Pertl) Doupnik. He attended and graduated from Thurston High School in 1947. After graduation, he moved to Omaha and worked for a short time until he enlisted in the United States Army. Glen served during the Korean War. Upon his return, Glen moved back to the Pender area and farmed with his father. In 1964, Glen bought a bar and started Glen’s Tap and Grill, he managed the bar from 1964 until 1972. After Glen sold the bar, he started working as the Thurston County Veteran Service Officer in Pender. On December 16, 1982, Glen married Leona Vraspir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson. Glen retired in 1994.
Glen was a lifelong member of the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time in his yard and tending to his flower gardens. Together, Leona and Glen spent many evenings dancing and listening to polka music.
Glen is survived by his stepchildren, Karen (Robert) Oetken of Lincoln, NE, Glen (Connie) Vraspir of Emerson, NE, Gene Vraspir of Emerson, NE, Gary (Jeanne) Vraspir of Belgrade, MT, Jim Vraspir of Belgrade, MT, Joe (Jane) Vraspir of Eagle, NE; 10 step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell (Marilyn) Doupnik of Columbus, OH; sister, Lilli Ann Spears of Shenandoah, IA; sister-in-law, Jeannie Kratky of Pender, NE; many nieces and nephews.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; daughter-in-law, Judi Vraspir; grandson, Ed Vraspir; and sister, Darlene.
