Helen N Frey, 101, of Pender, NE, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE with Gary Harris officiating. The visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender. The burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorial donations in memory of Helen may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Helen was born December 25, 1916 at rural Emerson to Henry and Mary (Bottger) Oetken. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Emerson and graduated from Emerson High School in 1934. She married Earl Frey on March 30, 1935 in West Point, NE. They farmed in Thurston County and retired in Pender. She belonged to St. Luke Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School, member of church women, ARG-U-NOT club, Hospital Auxiliary, card clubs, and was a founding member of the Pioneer Senior Center and a 4-H leader. She loved to sew and quilt, and made quilts for her girls and grandchildren. Helen is survived by her daughters, Vonda Crow and Georgia Kinning, both of Arvada CO; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; cousin, Ernest Witte who is 102; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Oetken and Helen Oetken. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl of 58 years; daughter, Earlyne Tomlinson; granddaughter, Denise Morrow; sisters, Leona Pullen, Alvena Evans; brothers, Herman, Wayne and Arthur Oetken; son-in-laws, Jack Crow and Ron Kinning; many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces; and nephews.
