Irvin J. Schlickbernd, 93, of Emerson, NE passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, NE. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE, with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.
Irvin was born on April 13, 1930, in Beemer, NE to Anton and Christina (Batenhorst) Schlickbernd. He was baptized on April 30, 1930, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE. On May 24, 1940, Irvin was confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner, NE. After graduation, he married Donna Mae Reimers on September 18, 1952, at St. Mary’s Church in West Point, NE. Together the couple had five children.
Irvin owned and operated the Gambles Store in Beemer prior to moving to Emerson in 1965. Irvin owned Schlickbernd Insurance Agency. After 35 years of marriage, Donna passed away in 1987. On June 25, 1990, Irvin married Darlene Windell.
He was active with the Knights of Columbus for 18 years, was an Amateur Ham Radio operator for 75 years, and served on the Emerson Volunteer Fire Department. Irvin enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards. But most of all, Irvin loved spending time with his family.
Irvin is survived by his daughters, Peg (Rod) Belt of Beatrice, NE, Joan (Mike) Vraspir of Emerson, Sandy (Tom) Servine of Waterbury, NE, Lori (Dion) Blanke of Emerson, NE; son, Terry Schlickbernd (Lisa) of Omaha, NE; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosie Lueckenhoff, Alvera (Roman) Uhing, Rita McGill; brother, Ken (Joyce) Schlickbernd; and many nieces and nephews.
Irvin is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Donna Schlickbernd, Darlene Schlickbernd; brother, Robert and wife Mary Schlickbernd; brothers-in-law, Fritz Lueckenhoff and Patrick McGill, III.
