Ivan W. Svoboda

Ivan W. Svoboda, 91, of Pender, NE, died on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, NE.  Funeral services for Ivan will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston, NE; Pastor Charity Potter will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender.

Ivan was born on September 5, 1930 in Blue Rapids, KS, the son of Gerald and Della (Horak) Svoboda.  At an early age, Ivan and his family moved to the Pender area.  In 1947, he graduated from Pender High School.  Following graduation he farmed until entering the United States Navy, where he serve on the USS Kearsarge aircraft carrier.  He was later stationed in San Francisco, CA until being discharged.  On September 29, 1963, Ivan was united in marriage to Sherrill M. Larson.  To this union three children were born, Kenneth, Kathy and Kevin.  He farmed and fed cattle his entire adult life.  Ivan was a member of the American Legion and John Huss Presbyterian Church. 

He is survived by his son, Kenneth (Jolene) Svoboda of Pender, NE, and their children, Jessica, Kayla and Megan; daughter, Kathy Svoboda of Omaha, NE; son Kevin (Linda) Svoboda of Seward, NE, and their children, Jonathan (Bethany) and Katelyn.  He is also survived by his brother, Alvin (Ellen) Svoboda of Pender, NE.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister.
