Jean Fischer, 102, of Wakefield, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield. A memorial visitation will be on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Jean's life will be on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield. Inurnment will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the family for later designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Jean was born on May 18, 1922, in Wakefield, NE, the daughter of Milton and Esther (Borg) Gustafson. She was baptized, confirmed, and later married Harold Fischer on June 6, 1946, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield. After graduating from Wakefield High School in 1939, Jean attended Wayne Normal School. She began teaching at country school shortly after. Jean and Harold had four children, Richard, Doug, Barb, and Carol Jean. Together they farmed in the Wakefield area until moving into Wakefield in 1984. She worked at True Value, Waldbaums, the Bowling Alley, and for 25 years as the Wakefield City Clerk. Jean was a lifelong member of the Wakefield Evangelical Covenant Church, where she served with the Covenant women. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, sports, cats, the Huskers, and attending her family’s events.

Jean is survived by her children, Richard (Leila) Fischer of Wakefield, NE, Douglas (Susie) Fischer of Leigh, NE, Barb (Gary) Preston of Wakefield, NE; ten grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Glee Gustafson of Wayne, NE, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2002; daughter, Carol Jean Fischer; granddaughter, Jayme Anne Fischer; siblings, Jim Gustafson, Morris Gustafson, Marlow Gustafson, Kenneth Gustafson, and sisters; Marian Keagle, Joyce Bowman and Vivian “Pete” Muller.
