Jerry was born on July 21, 1956, to Walter Dale and Marilyn (Crowell) Burhoop at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. He attended kindergarten through 8th grade at District 72, a one-room country school, and graduated high school from Bancroft Public School in 1974. He went on to attend Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, IA, graduating with an associate's degree in Feedlot Management. Jerry worked for Iowa Electric in Walthill, NE, and Cherokee, IA, for several years, before moving to Scott City, KS, in 2006.
Spending time with friends and family brought him much joy. As well as fishing, camping, and reading about history. He was an avid collector of guns and kerosene lamps. He was in his element when entertaining the “Garage Crew” buddies. He enjoyed cooking, he liked talking about recipes, sharing recipes, and trying new recipes. Many phone conversations with Mom turned to talking about and sharing new recipes that he had come across or had heard about.
Jerry was a loyal friend, a bit cantankerous at times, and had enough of an “ornery” streak to keep things interesting. Jerry never met a stranger, and many friends became “family” to him.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Marilyn Burhoop of Pender, NE; daughter, Eurisha (Steve) Brauhn and grandchildren, Nevaeh and Beau Brauhn of Sioux Rapids, IA; sister, Sandy (Jake) Tremayne of Walthill, NE; brothers, Steve Burhoop of Collier, KS, and Troy (Cindy) Burhoop of Salina, KS; nieces, nephews, a great niece and great-nephews; aunt, Yvonne Sporhase of Omaha, NE; uncle, David (Judy) Burhoop of Bancroft, NE; many cousins. He is also survived by his Scott City “family”, Goody, Rick, Daniel, Mikahael, Tayghen, Taylor and many other friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Dale Burhoop; his grandparents; his aunt and uncles, Carolyn and Bill Bennett, Jackie and Vern Larsen, Imogene and Sonny Samuelson; cousin, Doug Samuelson.
