Jose Contreras, 67, of Wakefield, NE, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. Visitation will be on Monday, August 8, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne, NE. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield. Lunch will be served at the Wakefield Civic Center following the burial. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. The family encourages everyone attending the visitation and prayer service please wear a LA Dodgers or your favorite baseball team’s gear in remembrance of Jose.
Jose was born on July 16, 1955, in Ojo Zarco, Mexico to Andres Contreras and Maria Luz Garcia. When Jose was in his early 20s, he moved to California to start working so he could provide for his family. On February 21, 1986, Jose married Loretta Esquibel in Los Angeles, CA. While he was in California, he became an avid LA Dodgers baseball fan and even played baseball on a local league team. In January of 1997, Jose and his family moved to Wakefield, where he started working at M. G. Waldbaum Company. Most recently, Jose was working for Wayne State College before he retired.
Jose loved his family and enjoyed traveling to his children’s and grandchildren’s events. He was very good with numbers and math, which came in handy when helping his family and friends with projects. Jose was a determined man and never gave up until the job was done right.
Jose is survived by his wife, Loretta Contreras of Wakefield, NE; children, Peter Herrera of CA, Jessica (Austin) Brown of Omaha, NE, Maria (Fredy) Andrade of Wakefield, NE, Andrew (Sherry) Contreras of Wayne, NE, Jose Contreras, Jr, of CA, Jorge Contreras of CA, Miguel Contreras of CA, Rodolfo Contreras of CA, Israel Contreras of Mexico; brother, Ubaldo (Maria) Contreras Garcia of Mexico; and several grandchildren.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents.
