Joy K. Hansen

Joy Kathleen Hansen, 90, of Pender, NE passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020, at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender.  A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020, at Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Private family graveside services will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Pender.  In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the House Memorial Library in Pender.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Pender. 

Joy was born on March 4, 1930 in Oakland, NE to Earl and Clara (Doud) Waltermeyer.  Joy graduated from Pender High School in 1949 and continued with her education receiving her teaching certificate from Wayne State College.  She then taught at a country school.

On May 25, 1952, Joy was united in marriage to Lyle L. Hansen at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender.  To this union five children were born, Steve Sally, Susie, Paul, and Perry.  Together they resided west of Pender and lived on the farm for many years before moving to town.  Joy and Lyle were married for 62 years before Lyle passed away in 2013.

Joy was an avid reader, she enjoyed baking, gardening, making flannel blankets for her family and watching her favorite tv shows.  Joy’s favorite times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Joy is survived by her sons, Steve (Jeanne) Hansen of Pender, NE, Paul Hansen of FL, Perry Hansen of Norfolk, NE; daughters, Sally (Don) Maslonka of Winston-Salem, NC, Susie King of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Angie (Ryan) Elrod of Omaha, NE, Ashley Knott of Omaha, NE, Amber King of Omaha, NE, Blake (Carissa) Hansen of Pender, NE, Dr. Matthew (Sara) Maslonka of Lincoln, NE, Ethan Hansen of Phoenix, AZ, Parker Hansen of Crete, NE, Dalton Hansen of Lincoln, NE, Noah (Heather) Maslonka of Sarasota, FL, Lindsey Maslonka of Janesville, WI, Brittney Maslonka of Janesville, WI; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Ford of Columbus, NE; sisters-in-law, Hilda Hansen of Pender, NE, VonDale Waltermeyer of Omaha, NE.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; brothers, Carroll Waltermeyer, Max Waltermeyer, Cleo Waltermeyer, Bob Waltermeyer.
