Joyce Kuhl

Joyce Kuhl, 80, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Wakefield Health Care Center.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Patti Meyer will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church.   There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening.  Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements.  Burial will be at a later date.

Joyce was born on February 1, 1939 in Plainview, NE, the daughter of Ernest and Lillian (Dufek) Hayes.  She attended and graduated from Plainview High School in 1956.  On October 11, 1959, Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Kuhl in Plainview, NE.  Joyce and Don moved to Dakota City, NE, where they were active with the local fire department.  They moved to Wakefield in 1977.  Joyce played an active role with the Wakefield Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments.  She served for many years as the Office Secretary for the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association.   Joyce was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church, enjoyed traveling, sewing, ceramics and cooking. 

She is survived by her husband, Don Kuhl of Wakefield; daughters, Stacey (David) Hitz of Denver, CO and Melaney Kuhl of Wakefield, NE; grandsons, Zachary and Ethan Hitz; a sister, Jeanie (Gary) Weber of Lincoln, NE; several nieces, nephews and her dog Jaq.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Lillian Hayes and brother and sister-in-law, Raymond (Marilyn) Hayes.
