Joycelyn Moody, 72, of Pender, NE, passed away May 10, 2020, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. A public graveside service will be Friday, May 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, with Pastor Nathan Henschen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Joycelyn was born on March 30, 1948 to Martin and Anne (Stark) Smith in Pender, NE. She graduated from Pender High School in 1966, and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Home Economics. On March 18th, 1978, Joycelyn married Rick Moody at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska. They raised one daughter, Rachelle Moody, who lives in Portland Oregon with her husband Sean Sullivan. Joycelyn worked as a Home Economist for the University of Nebraska. Joycelyn and Rick farmed and continue to farm east of Pender for their entire married life. Joycelyn received a liver transplant in 1986 and was the 20th recipient at the University of Nebraska Medical Center which now has done over 4,000 transplants. Joycelyn was a member of multiple quilt guilds and won several awards at local and state competitions. She is currently a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Bancroft, Nebraska. Joycelyn is survived by her husband, Rick Moody; daughter, Rachelle Moody and her husband Sean Sullivan, Portland, OR; sister, Julieann (Gary) Jorgenson of Fremont, NE; brothers, Richard (Donna) Smith, Gerald (Mary) Smith of Pender. She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Anne Smith; brother, Lowell Smith.
