Kathy A. (Puls) Vander Veen, 59, of Wakefield, Nebraska passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor William Bertrand will be officiating. The visitation will be Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Kathy was born February 15, 1958 to Donald and Roberta (Clark) Puls in Wakefield, NE. In 1976, Kathy graduated from Wakefield High School. Shortly after graduation, she was united in marriage to Calvin Vander Veen. To this union two children were born. Kathy worked in the medical field most of her life. She began her career at the Wakefield Hospital, later working in Wayne. From there she received her certification and worked as a Respiratory Therapist. She worked in Norfolk, Fremont and Bergan Mercy in Omaha. In 2001, Kathy and Calvin returned to Wakefield. Kathy left the medical field and worked for MCI and Target in Sioux City, and selling Country Peddler. She is survived by her husband, Calvin Vander Veen of Wakefield, NE; son, Brian Vander Veen of Fremont, NE; daughter, Amy Weinman (Zeke Gardels) of Council Bluffs, IA; and her children, Caedence Weinman and Alex Gardels; mother, Roberta Puls of Wakefield, NE; sister, Kristin (Bruce) Jorgensen of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Robert Puls of Wakefield, NE, and Richard Puls of Omaha, NE. Kathy is preceded in death by her father, Donald and her grandparents.
