Kevin LeRoy Smith, 61, of Allen, NE, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh–Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. The memorial service will be on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Munderloh–Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh–Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Kevin was born on December 5, 1963, in Mullen, NE, the son of Dale and Maxine (Lyons) Smith. At an early age, Kevin's family moved to Allen, NE, where he attended grades K-3rd. They then moved to Ponca, NE, where he earned many high school bull riding state championship titles. In 1982, Kevin graduated from Ponca High School. He continued on with his bull riding career. In 1987, he earned the title of PRCA Resistol Bull Riding Rookie of the year. In 1988, Kevin unexpectedly suffered a career-ending injury after being stomped by a bull at the National Western Stock Show Rodeo. He then worked for many years at several feedyards as a cowboy. With the most recent being LaFleur Brothers in Jefferson, SD. From where he retired after 25 years. On September 14, 1996, Kevin was united in marriage to Kathy Rogers at the Methodist Church in Ponca, NE. Together, they lived on a farm near Allen, NE. Where they raised their 5 children. He enjoyed being a Cowboy, breaking horses, raising calves, coon hunting, playing cards, especially Texas Hold ’Em Poker, and Euchre. He judged many rodeos and loved helping young riders behind the chutes, teaching them the correct way to ride.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Smith of Allen, NE; sons, Kyle Smith (Alyssa Boese) of Wayne, NE, Tully (Heather) Rogers of Le Mars, IA; daughters, Alisha (Dan) Campbell of Vermillion, SD, Tatum Mauro of Osmond, NE, Kaylen Smith (Kordale Strivens) of Allen, NE; nine grandchildren; parents, Dale and Maxine Smith of Allen; sisters, Jolene Lueth (Mark Hanson) of Sioux City, IA, Carrie (Cory) Marschner of Columbus, ND, Mindy (Corey) Millard of Martinsburg, NE; brother, Richard Smith (Deanna Seals) of Atlantic City, WY; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; infant brother, Tony Smith; and a sister, Shelly Bausch.
