LaNel "Boots" Russman

LaNel F. “Boots” Russman, 84, of Bancroft, NE died on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Bancroft City Cemetery in Bancroft, NE, with Pastor Charity Potter officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE. 

Boots was born on July 5, 1936 to Arthur and Leora (Swanson) Russman on a farm north of Bancroft, NE.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church.  Boots attended grade school at District 72 in rural Bancroft and graduated from Bancroft High School on May 25, 1955.  He began farming with his dad and was drafted in the US Army in April of 1960.  He was sworn in at Ft. Carson in Colorado and did his basic training at the Ft. Hood and Ft. Bliss in Texas.  Boots was stationed at Ft. Richardson in Alaska and honorably discharged at Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas.  Upon returning from the army, he continued farming until 1989, and then worked for Morrison and Quirk Dehy of Bancroft until his retirement in 2010. 

Boots was a member of the American Legion Post 191.  He enjoyed socializing with his friends telling stories and reminiscing.  He had a great memory for people and places.

LaNel is survived by many cousins and friends and was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
