Larry Lee Willers

Larry L. Willers, 78, of rural Wayne, NE died on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at MercyOne Hospital in Sioux City, IA. A celebration of life for Larry will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Salem Lutheran Church basement in Wakefield, NE. Burial will be at a later date in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Larry was born in Wayne, NE, on August 30, 1941, the son of Elmer and Rachel (Heineman) Willers. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1958. On December 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol Mortenson. To this union, three children were born. For a short time, Larry and Carol moved to Schuyler, NE, before returning to Wakefield. Throughout Larry’s life, he had numerous jobs: he worked at a dairy, farmed, built grain bins, worked construction, employed at Great Dane, and raised hogs. When his children were young, Larry was a 4-H leader. He was a member of the saddle club and Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Larry enjoyed camping, attending auctions, fishing, tractors and watching television. He also enjoyed researching his heritage and ancestry, most of all; Larry enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Wayne, NE; son, Todd (Darcy) Willers of Kearney, NE; daughter, Tanya (Dan) Heikes of Winside, NE; son-in-law, Randy Kinnaman of Emerson, NE; grandchildren, Trish (Jason) Frederick and their son, Anthony of Sioux City, IA, Dustin (Cali) Heikes and their daughter, Lily of Winside, NE, Chase Willers of Lincoln, NE, Garrett Heikes of Wayne, NE, Megan Kinnaman of Wisner, NE, Cody Willers of Lincoln, NE, Paige Kinnaman of Wayne, NE, and Ryan Kinnaman of Emerson, NE. Larry is also survived by his sisters, Sylvia McAuliffe of Schuyler, NE, and Irene Fielder of Buda, TX; sisters-in-law, Marcia Barg of Norfolk, NE and Valerie Willers of Jackson, NE; brothers-in-law, Melvin “Butch” (Carol) Mortenson of Wakefield, NE, and Marion Rice of Fairfield, CA; several nieces, nephews, and God children. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Weldon and Ann Mortenson; daughter, Trisha Kinnaman; sister, Betty Rice; brother, Randy Willers; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie (Dorothy) Willers; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Skip) Forth; brothers-in-law, Charles Fielder, Walter "Sonny" McAuliffe, Merlin Mortenson and Robert Barg.
