LaVon Soll

LaVon K. Soll, 84, of Bancroft, NE, died on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home in Emerson, NE, following a courageous battle with cancer.  A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE.  A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.  Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Munderloh–Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft is in charge of the services.

LaVon was born in Elkhorn, NE, the daughter of Homer and Hazel (Kellett) Riecken.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.  LaVon attended grade school at District 13 and District 10 and graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1958.  While growing up, LaVon often went to work with her mom at local cafés and restaurants, where she did dishes and bussed tables.  She also helped her dad with chores on the family’s farm.  She worked for seven years at Proctor and Gamble in Omaha, before meeting Jack Soll in November of 1963.  They were engaged on Valentine’s Day and were married on July 18, 1964, at Bethany Lutheran Church.  Jack and LaVon had two children, Deanna and Michael.  Together, they farmed in Elkhorn before purchasing a farm near Bancroft in 1973.  They moved to Bancroft on December 10, 1974.  LaVon was active on the family farm, helping with fieldwork, irrigation, and raising hogs.  In 1985, LaVon began working at the Co-op office, and at the Country Pub, where she worked until 2006.  In 2016, Jack and LaVon moved to their home in Bancroft, so their grandson could move to the farm.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, helping, and teaching her grandchildren to work on 4-H projects.  She also loved to read, travel to many places with her husband Jack, and Polka dancing, and attending events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna (Kent) Hansen of Bancroft, NE; son, Mick (Michelle) Soll of Bancroft, NE; grandchildren, Dr. Josh (Alaynna) Beutler and their daughters, Nora and Violet of Pender, NE, Chelsey (Steve) Rabe and their children, Waylon and Bristol of Pender, NE, Devin Soll of Bancroft, NE and McKensie Sedlacek; step-grandchildren, Nicole (Drew) Smith and their children, Ashlyn, Ava, Aiden, and Avery of Clive, IA, Megan (Casey) Novak and their children Cason, Maura and Crew of Bancroft, NE. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack in 2018; sister-in-law, Darlene McKenzie; in-laws, Bill and Florence Soll.
