Lavone Ruby Gutzmann

Lavone Ruby Gutzmann, formerly of Denison, passed away on Jan. 23, 2017, in Virginia Beach, Va. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Emerson, Neb..   Lavone was born on Nov. 9, 1924, in Denison, Iowa, to Henry and Margaret Buchanan. She attended Wayne State College, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in English, and where she met and married her husband, Leslie Earl Gutzmann. Her husband's military service afforded her an opportunity live abroad in Germany for several years, and also in many of the U.S. states. Lavone became a certified gemologist, and worked in the fine jewelry trades later in her life. Lavone and Les had three children, Lawrence, Dawn, and Kurt. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Barnes; her son, Kurt; grandchildren, Karrie, Carly, and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Ian, Sienna, and Isaac.
