Lucille V. Barker, 99, of Pender, NE passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Randall Herman will be officiating. The visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Burial will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Pender. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the Pender Senior Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Lucille was born January 9, 1919 to Charley and Clara (Barnes) Dye in Elkton, SD. In 1929 the family moved by train to Thurston County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Around 1935 the family moved into town and she began working for Dye Trucking. Lucille met Leslie Barker at a dance at the Dutch Hall and the couple was married September 5, 1937 at her parent’s home. The couple had two children; Lois and Dennis. Leslie and Lucille farmed from 1944 until 1980. Lucille was an avid quilter and loved to quilt items for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, St. Mark’s quilting ladies, Pender Senior Center, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, church circle, and on the cradle roll for 40 years. Lucille was a charter member of the CC Club and on several card clubs. She bowled until she was 80 years old and drove until she was 95 years old. Lucille is survived by her son, Dennis (Dianne) Barker of Fairbury, NE; daughter, Lois (Mike) Broderick of Canton, SD; sister-in-law, Hazel Dye; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie of 47 years; brother, Clarence Dye; and sister-in-law, Patty Dye.
