Margaret Cisney

May 20, 1920 — April 17, 2018

Margaret L. Cisney, 97, of Wakefield, NE, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Wakefield Health Care Center.  A gathering for friends will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Bressler - Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.  Memorials are suggested to the Wakefield Care Center, Wakefield Senior Center, or Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler - Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Margaret was born May 20, 1920 at Laurel, Nebraska in her grandparent’s home.  She was the second child of Herman Beckman and Martha (Evers) Beckman. Margaret moved with her parents and brother, John, to Coleridge, Nebraska at age 7.  She attended Coleridge Public Schools and graduated from Coleridge High School. Giles S. Cisney and Margaret Beckman were united in marriage July 20, 1937.  They moved to Wakefield in September 1937 and Margaret lived in Wakefield from that time on with the exception of two and one half years during World War II.  She and her son, Dewain left to live with her parents, during the war, while Giles served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific.  She taught at Norris District country school, a one room school house, located two miles east of Coleridge during that time. In 2010, three of her eighth grade students were able to attend her 90th birthday celebration and shared with her their fond memories of her being their teacher. Margaret worked for many years as the receptionist at Dr. Coe’s office.  She also worked for the Wakefield School District.  She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and served one term as president.  Margaret was known as a helpful, caring neighbor and friend, and as a willing volunteer.  She did not like the spotlight and went about serving others in a quiet, selfless fashion. Margaret was a recipient of the AKSARBEN “Good Neighbor Award” in 1992. Margaret was a faithful member of the Salem Lutheran Church.  She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son, Jesse Cisney, of Laytonville, California, daughter-in-law, Sharol of Tempe, Arizona, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son, Dewain, daughter-in-law, Barbara, granddaughter, Sasha, and brother, John Beckman and his wife, Angie.
