Marion Bulah (Brandes) Redding, 92, of Bancroft, NE, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Parkview Home in Dodge, NE. The visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. The burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.
Marion was born on November 24, 1930, in her family’s home in Bancroft to William and Clara (Zuhlke) Brandes. She attended and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1948. She continued her education by receiving a teaching certificate from Wayne State College. On June 24, 1950, Marion was united in marriage to Verle Redding at the Presbyterian Church in Lyons. The couple moved to Oakland for five years before settling into her parents’ farm in 1958, where she grew up. Later in life she moved into her parents’ home in Bancroft.
Marion was a jack of all trades, she taught school, worked at Elsassers Grocery and Jim’s Locker until she became well known for “Mou’s Place” home of the Hot Beef and Coconut Cream Pie. After her retirement, she worked for Deanna Soll at her establishment, for a short time.
She loved to read, go to the casino, dance, play cards, go bowling, and gardening. Rain or shine you could find her at the Bancroft Senior Center doing something. She enjoyed helping in the kitchen, attending all the special events and spending time with her friends every morning for coffee.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Trish (Gene) Alba of Bliss, ID, Linda Schwanebeck of Schuyler, NE; sons, Charles (Lisa) Redding of Martell, NE, Doug (Tina) Redding of Lyons, NE, Marvin (Suzie) Redding of Fremont, NE, Randall (Marlene) Redding of Fremont, NE; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Marion is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verle Redding; companion, Frank Pope; brother, Clarence (Phyllis) Brandes; sister, Evelyn (Elmer) Schilling; grandsons, Brett Redding and Brock Redding.
