Marie Peters, 98, of Pender, Nebraska died on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Pender; Pastor Robert Schilling will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church near Pender, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.
Marie was born on November 30, 1919 in Crookston, NE (Cherry County), the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Grantham) Lanz. She was baptized on December 21, 1919 and confirmed on July 22, 1928 by Rev. Henry Grotke S.J. at St. Francis Mission Church at St. Frances, South Dakota. She attended school in Valentine, NE and Omaha, NE. Marie was a dental assistant for Dr. George Racely in Valentine. Marie met Roland Peters at a 4-H stock show at Ak-sar-ben. The two corresponded for four years during WWII before they were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point, NE on March 17, 1946. To this union four children were born; Connie, Roger, Richard and Paul. Marie and Roland lived and farmed south of Pender until retiring and moving into Pender. She was a 4-H Leader for 20 years and a county extension member for forty years, where she also served as county chairman. Marie volunteered thousands of hours with Hospice, and was honored with the Regional Volunteer Award of the Year. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was active with Ladies Aid and LWML. Marie enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing bridge.
She is survived by a daughter, Connie (Ron) Wobken of Pender, NE; sons, Roger (Ande) Peters of Wisner, NE, Richard (Karen) Peters of Elkhorn, NE and Paul (Carol) Peters of Wisner, NE. Marie is also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dwain Anderson of Oakland, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland in 2012; sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Warren) Hronek; brother and sister-in-law, Albert (Mildred) Lanz; sister-in-law, Katherine Anderson; and brother-in-law, Harvey Peters.
