Mary E. Lake, 88, of Pender, NE, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Heritage of Emerson Care Center in Emerson, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Pender, NE. The visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements. Mary was born on May 31, 1934, on the family farm near Bancroft, NE, the daughter of Walter and Helen (Harrison) Ehler. Following her graduation from Wisner High School, she was united in marriage to Thomas Lake on November 10, 1956, in Bancroft, NE. To this union three children were born; James, Jay, and Jana. She received her teaching certificate and taught in country schools. Mary later received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Wayne State College. Following her retirement, she continued to substitute teach at many schools in the area. Mary was a member of Gamma Iota, enjoyed tending to her flowers and watching Nebraska sports. She is survived by her sons, James Lake of Sloan, IA, Jay (Cheryl) Lake of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Jana (Rob) Renz of Thurston, NE; grandchildren, Nichole (Brian) Andersen of Bennington, NE, Rochelle Lake of Sloan, IA, Katie (Jarred) Corbell of Bend, OR, Daniel (Lacey) Lake of Milford, NE, Melissa Lake (Tim Stinson) of Minneapolis, MN, Ryan (Jenny) Lake of Blaine, MN, Miranda Meyers of Bennington, NE, Shayna (Dan) Bowles of Huntington, NY, Jessica (Ron) Luth of Omaha, NE; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother Gerald (Marlene) Ehler of Beemer, NE; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Rosemary Ehler; and husband, Thomas Lake.
