Mary Kay was born in Sioux City, IA, on October 23, 1946, the daughter of Gerard and Agnes (DeLaurier) Chicoine. After graduating from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, SD in 1964, Mary Kay attended Nursing School at St. Vincent’s in Sioux City, IA, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Science. On August 17, 1968, Mary Kay was united in marriage to Sanford “Sandy” Otte in Jefferson, SD. She worked for a short time as a nurse until the couple started their family. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them, playing card games with them, which she rarely lost was a favorite pastime. Mary Kay enjoyed sewing, quilting, and genealogy; and was famous for her peanut brittle. She also had a love for the river, where the family has spent their weekends for the last 50 years, and various fishing trips to Canada, where she always outfished Sandy. Being a South Dakota river gal, she taught Sandy how to mushroom hunt.

She is survived by her husband Sandy of Wakefield, NE; daughter, Michelle (Scot) Keagle of Wakefield, NE; daughter, Christy (Jon) Gault and children, Hannah and Jack of Golden, CO; daughter, Kathy (Carl) Lewis, and children, Bill and Ryan of White Fish Bay, WI; and a brother, Dale Chicoine of Elkhorn, NE.
