Mary M. (Clark) Rohde, 96, of Emerson, NE passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022. The visitation will be on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson. A rosary service will begin at 4:30 p.m. and a wake service starting at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lions Club or Homer American Legion Auxiliary. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.
Mary was born on August 26, 1926, in Cherokee, IA, the oldest child of Sylvester and Clara (Wilberding) Clark. She had three siblings, Pat, Kay, and Jack. She graduated from Aurelia, IA High School and St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA.
She met her future husband, Daniel Rohde, on a blind date in 1947. They went to a dance in Homer, Nebraska. It was her first time in Nebraska. After their marriage in 1948, they moved to the Rohde family homestead in rural Emerson. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in hospitals in Sioux City, IA and Pender, NE, and as a school nurse for ESU #1.
Mary and Daniel were married for 65 years before his passing in 2014. Survivors include her children, Danna Plummer, Jody (Ken) Mueller, Cyndy Rohde, Martin (Trish) Rohde, Patti (Mark) Trevett, and Rod Rohde (Pam Beste); 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; (number 38 is due in January 2023); sisters, Pat Schumann, Kay Hase; sister-in-law, Lorna Clark; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel (2014); sons Danny (1963), John (2005); son-in-law, Chuck Plummer (2020); brother, Jack (2016); parents; brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.
