Myrdyce Muriel (Vogel) Leifert, 94, of Pender, NE died on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. A private family funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft. Arrangements are under the direction Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Myrdyce was born on March 22, 1926 to Nash Vogel and Delilah Thompson Vogel on Beemer Hill, outside of Beemer at the family home. She was the 10th child out of 14 siblings in this busy family. Myrdyce was baptized on May 22, 1927 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 by Pastor Oelschlaeger at St Paul Lutheran Church, West Point. The family moved to West Point and she attended St Paul Lutheran Schools and West Point High School. Myrdyce married Marvin Leifert on June 17, 1943 at the Dakota County Courthouse in Dakota City, Nebraska. This marriage was blessed with five children, Cheryl, Ronald, Gary, Robert, and Marlys. The couple farmed all their lives in the Bancroft-Lyons area. Myrdyce was a hard-working farm wife raising chickens and selling eggs, helping with the dairy cow operation, and selling milk and cream. She also had a large garden and fruit trees and was always busy preserving food for the family. Her mother was killed in a car accident when she was just 14 years old, so she had to learn things on her own, and Marvin’s mother, Emma Leifert, also taught her the aspects of farm life. During some hard farming times, Myrdyce went to work outside the home. Her first job was at Campbells soup company in Fremont. She then worked at Logan Valley cafe in Lyons, Iowa Beef in Dakota City as a meat cutter, and as the Dietary Manager at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons. In 1990, Marvin and Myrdyce retired from the farm and moved to Fremont. They both continued to work for Nye Square Retirement Center, Marvin as the activity bus driver and Myrdyce as the Dietary Manager. Myrdyce was always active in her church throughout her life, serving as Sunday School teacher and Altar Guild President at St Paul church in Bancroft and President and Devotional leader for the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran church in Fremont. Myrdyce loved making crafts of all kinds and prided herself in making something out of nothing. She was most proud of the Christmas tree she made out of milkweed pods and chicken wire. Myrdyce loved Christmas and would decorate every nook and cranny in her house and especially loved holly decor. In her crafting, she made many different kinds of Christmas ornaments and her tree would always stay up until Epiphany. Myrdyce was extremely proud of her family and loved them dearly. She was the happiest with a full house of children of all ages, and of course good food and good coffee! Myrdyce always had a batch of her fresh baked Best Ever Sugar Cookies ready to send home with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came to visit. If Myrdyce was involved with something, she gave it 100% and never shied away from the work involved. She expected the same of her family, as well. Myrdyce had a stroke in October 2018. She fell asleep in Jesus’ arms on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at Legacy Gardens at the age of 94 years, 8 months, 10 days. Myrdyce is survived by her Daughter, Cheryl Karney of Rockford, Illinois; Sons and spouses, Ron and Sally Leifert of Lincoln, Gary and Cheri Leifert of Troy, Mo, Bob and Mary Leifert of Gilbert, Arizona; Daughter, Marlys and Roger Hoefs of Pender. Also 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Myrdyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin in Feb 2013, and also her 13 brothers and sisters. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
