Paul Walter Schopke, 53, of Pender, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Pender Community Hospital. Funeral services will be Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE; Rev. Kathy Montira will be officiating. The visitation will be Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Paul was born September 30, 1964 in Pender to Harlan and Ruth (Rohrs) Schopke. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1983 and attended Northeast College for two years. Paul married Janet Ehlers on October 23, 1993 in Emerson, NE and the couple had three children. He worked at Pender Implement for 26 years, leaving in 2012. He was a fisherman who enjoyed playing cards, board games, horses and fixing tractors. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Paul is survived his wife, Janet Schopke of Pender, NE; son, Eric Schopke of Pender, NE; daughters, Rachel Schopke of Norfolk, NE, Sarah Schopke of Pender, NE; mother, Ruth Schopke of Wakefield, NE; sister, Heidi (Steve) Swanton of Wentzville, MO; brothers, Mark “Chopper” Schopke of Wakefield, NE, John (Jennifer) Schopke of Kearney, NE; mother-in-law Shirley Ehlers of David City, NE; step-brothers, Steve Flax of Krum, TX, Mike (Amy) Flax of Minot, ND; step-sister, Roxann (Rob) Stark of Minot, ND; nieces and nephews, David, Matthew, Tanner, Brody, Ellie, Kyle, Luke, and Jed. He is preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Harlan and Judy; and father-in-law, Paul Ehlers.
