Phyllis I. Salmon, 82, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE. Funeral services for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, NE; Pastor Patti Meyer will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements. Phyllis was born on July 15, 1935 near Concord, NE, the daughter of Arthur and Evelina (Magnuson) Johnson. She graduated from Concord High School in 1953 and attended Wayne State College. Phyllis taught rural school for four years. She was united in marriage to Dean Salmon on June 23, 1957 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord, NE. To this union two children were born; Bennett and LeAnn. Phyllis babysat for 20 years, and worked for the Wakefield Cleaners. She worked for 27 years at the Wakefield Health Care Center as a dietary aid until her retirement. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and pinochle. She was a member of the Wakefield Fireman’s Auxiliary and Salem Lutheran Church, where she was active in circle and the WELCA. She is survived by a son Bennett (Kathleen) Salmon of Wakefield, NE, daughter LeAnn Miner of Wakefield, NE, five grandchildren; Erin Smith, Shanda Geiser, Andrea Wortman, Laura Salmon and Brady Miner and eleven great grandchildren. Phyllis is also survived by 3 bothers, Marlen (Susie) Johnson of Concord, NE, Leon (Linda) Johnson of Broken Arrow, OK, Delwyn (Fern) Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Doris (Jim) Nelson of Concord, NE; sisters-in-law, Ardyce Johnson of Laurel, NE and Mary Johnson of Allen, NE. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean Salmon, grandson Shad Miner, son-in-law, Vern Miner and two brothers Evert and Dwight “Duke” Johnson.
