Rollan "Shorty" Lee Hingst, 77, of Wakefield, NE passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE; Pastor Gretchen Ritola will be officiating. The visitation will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson. Rollan was born October 5, 1939 to Harland and Marie (Reher) Hingst in Emerson. He graduated in 1956 from Emerson High School. Rollan enlisted in the United States Army in Fort Hood, TX. On May 26, 1962, he married Dorothy Gatzemeyer in Emerson and the couple had two children. Rollan loved family gatherings and especially looked forward to the Fourth of July. He enjoyed watching Husker football, playing cards (especially pitch), bowling, horseshoes, and most recently putting puzzles together with his mom. He was a member of the American Legion in Wakefield, NE and proud to have been a lifelong farmer. He is survived by his daughters, Rendy (Mark) Hitz of Grapevine, TX, Cristy (John) Rardin of Olathe, KS; mother, Marie Hingst of Emerson, NE; sisters, Reta (Jim) Bodwell, Diane (Dave) Jensen, Carolyn (Dean) Sievers; brothers, Marlan (Judy) Hingst, Verlan (Vicky) Hingst, Lelan Hingst, Dennis (Ida) Hingst, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rollan is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; father, Harland; sister-in-law, Judy Hingst, and two infant grandchildren.
