Ruth A. (Mallum) Simpkin, 70, of Wakefield, NE died on Monday, December 21, 2020 at her home in Wakefield. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are under the directions of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Per Ruth’s wishes, in lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family for future designation, cards can be sent to the family at: Ruth Simpkin Family PO Box 146 Wakefield, NE 68784 Ruth was born on April 4, 1950 in Wakefield, NE to Arthur and Sylvia (Smith) Mallum. She attended and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1968 and continued her education and training and graduated form Grand Island Beauty School in 1970. She married William Oetken in Wakefield at the Presbyterian Church. To this union two children were born: Brent and Melissa. They later divorced. Ruth married Thomas Simpkin on December 23, 2000 in Wakefield, NE. Ruth was very active in the Wakefield Senior Center and enjoyed having a cup of coffee with the social groups at Sidelines. She absolutely loved spending time with her family especially her grandkids and great grandkids. She worked at the Wakefield Care Center and the Korner Mart before retiring, for good. Ruth is survived by her son, Brent (Kristy) Oetken of Yankton, SD; daughter, Melissa (Scott) Obermeyer of Wakefield, NE; stepsons, Michael (Taylor) Simpkin of Traverse City, MI, Brandon (Tia) Simpkin of Cadillac, MI; stepdaughter, Sarah Wolfe of Mesick, MI; brothers, Robert (Karen) Mallum of Lincoln, NE, Dennis (Susan) Mallum of Prescott, AR; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Thomas Simpkin; brother, Charles Mallum.
