Sandra “Sandy” Kay Driskell, 66, of Wakefield, NE, died on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at her home near Wakefield, after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Journey Christian Church in Wayne, NE. Memorial services for Sandy will be held on Wednesday, September 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Journey Christian Church with Pastor Troy Reynolds officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Sandy was born on November 4, 1952 in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, the daughter of James Merlin and Eleanor (Malcom) Jones. After graduating from Allen High School, Sandy attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and finished her degree at Wayne State College. She taught high school math and english in various Nebraska schools. On November 6, 1987, Sandy was united in marriage to William “Rick” Driskell in Pender, NE. To this union, Dexter and Desiree were born. In 2013, Sandy earned her doctoral degree in Educational Administration at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Later she worked as the Director of Trio Student Support Services at Wayne State College. She enjoyed farm work and the life it entailed, which included operating various equipment and caring for a multitude of animals. She was a lifelong learner, enjoyed reading, traveling, and tending to her various gardens. Sandy was also a member of P.E.O. and the Ladies Auxiliary. Sandy’s faith in God was boundless and never wavered. The time spent with her family and attending their activities brought her the ultimate joy. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Rick; son, Dex (Morgan) Driskell and their daughter Elliott; daughter, Desiree (Drew) Rose and their children Hallie and Grant Rose all of Wakefield, NE; mother, Eleanor Jones of Allen, NE; sisters, Deborah (Bruce) Lundahl of Wakefield, NE, Terri (Bart) Gotch of South Sioux City, NE, Shari Black of Allen, NE, Stacey (Kevin) Woodward of Allen, NE; in-laws, Mary (LeVern) Lundahl of Wakefield, NE, Marcia (Robert) Cook of Omaha, NE, various nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Merlin Jones; grandson, Will Driskell; infant sister Roberta Lynn Jones; father and mother-in-law, William “Buck” and Dorothy Driskell.
