Santos Calderon-Hernandez, 77, of Wakefield, NE died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at CHI Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, NE.  The visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.  The funeral service will be Friday, September 6, 2024, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor Walter Carranza officiating.  Inurnment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the Wakefield City Cemetery in Wakefield, NE.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.

Santos was born on May 29, 1947, to Amado Terezo Calderon and Gregoria Hernandez de Calderon in Retalhuleu, Guatemala. Santos attended school for a short time in Retalhuleu. He was a busy and hard-working kid with the desire to keep working. He worked as a commercial fisherman. When he turned 18 years old, he joined the Guatemala Armed Forces in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and served one term. In 1989, Santos moved to California and worked at San Clemente Farm and helped with harvesting and various other tasks. He moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 1993, and started working for the W.G. Walbaum Company in Wakefield, NE. On August 9, 1996, Santos married Zoila Marilu Guzman in Sioux City, Iowa. A few years later the couple moved to Wakefield and made this their family home. The couple had five children, Jose A., Mariana, Kimberly, Jose Anthony, and Alexander. Santos continued working for what became Michael Foods for 30 years before retiring at 76, due to health problems. 

Santos enjoyed telling stories about his past military service and fishing in Guatemala. He liked camping, fishing, attending social gatherings, playing cards, and dice games. Santos will always be remembered for being a hard-working man with a strong love for his family. 

Santos is survived by his mother, Gregoria; wife, Zoila Marilu Guzman; children, Mariana, Kimberly, Jose Anthony, Alexander, Santana, Santos Rudy, William, Carlos, Gerardo, Esvin; sisters, Floridalma, Aracely, Olga, Londy; brother, Rudy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Santos is preceded in death by his father, Amado; infant son, Jose A.; and sister, Tereza.

Santos disfrutaba compartir historias sobre su pasado en el servicio militar y sobre pescar en Guatemala. A el le gustaba campar, pescar, asistir a eventos sociales, jugar cartas, y juegos de dados. Santos siempre será recordado por aver sido un hombre trabajador con un amor muy fuerte hacia su familia. 

Santos es sobrevivido por su madre Gregoria, esposa Zoila Marilu Guzmán: sus hijos, Mariana, Kimberly, Jose Anthony, Alexander, Santana, Santos Rudy, William, Carlos, Gerardo, Esvin; hermanas, Floridalma, Aracely, Olga, Londy; hermano, Rudy y muchos sobrinos, sobrinas, primos y primas.
