Tom was born on December 18, 1954 in Pender, NE, the son of Wilbur and Marcella (Novak) Fuchser. He graduated from Walthill High School. Tom attended Milford Technical Community College, where he was an Honor Roll Student. He was widely known around Northeast Nebraska as a respected and hard-working member of the community. He was a farm equipment mechanic and farmer, but primarily, he devoted his life to helping others. Tom was a baptized and confirmed member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the board of trustees, farm ground manager, sang in the choir and drove for the youth group trips. He was a Walthill Rural Fire Board member and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
If someone needed help, Tom could be counted on to assist whether it be helping his neighbors with farm work, fixing machinery, clearing snow from their driveway, help building a house, making repairs, and countless other tasks. Tom had a vast array of knowledge on a variety of subjects that his friends grew to respect and count on. His community of friends was vast. While Tom was in the hospital and nursing home, the steady stream of visitors amazed the staff; there was always someone there to provide comfort and support for Tom. At the hospital, Tom was known as the Candy King. Over the past several years, Tom would frequently provide candy for the nurses and staff. Numerous stories were told about how much Tom had helped them over the years. The number of visitors even amazed Tom. He had no idea the impact he had on so many people in his community. He was just being a good neighbor. Tom’s community became his family who deeply loved him, and he loved them; never a complainer, no harsh words about anyone, never asking for anything in return, and always being charitable to a fault.
Thomas is survived by his father, Wilbur Fuchser of Walthill, NE; four brothers, Steve (Ann) Fuscher of Denver, CO, Terry Fuchser of Walthill, NE, Duane (Jeanne) Fuchser of Porter, TX, and Larry (Pam) Fuscher of Oceanside, CA; brother-in-law, Ron (Sandy) Bruno of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Fuchser; and sister, Sandy Fuchser Bruno.
