Thomas George McTaggart, 81, of Emerson, NE, passed away peacefully September 2, 2017, after receiving the Sacrament of the Sick, including Apostolic Blessing/Pardon. Surrounded by family, Tom died of complications of pneumonia at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson; Father Gerald Leise will be celebrating Mass. The visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. The burial with military honors will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson. Thomas George McTaggart was born to Thomas Vincent and Catherine Cecelia (Liewer) McTaggart on April 4, 1936 on the family farm east of Emerson, Nebraska. He attended Emerson Sacred Heart School, graduating in 1954-. Thomas worked on the family farm until serving in the US Marines. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to the family farm as a cattle feeder and farmer. A lifelong Catholic, Thomas loved the Rosary. He was a kind and caring person with a huge sense of humor with a memorable laugh. Thomas loved to talk about growing up in Emerson on the farm and his time at Sacred Heart School. He also loved to reminisce about his fond acquaintances from when he lived in Oklahoma. Thomas took care of his father and mother during their last days and brought Communion to his mother when she wasn’t able to make it to Mass. He loved working on the farm and using Case Tractors. Thomas was survived by his siblings, Mary Catherine (Toots) and Tom McCarthy, Sarasota FL, Sister Margaret McTaggart, Chicago IL, Mike and Virginia (Jeanie) McTaggart, Beemer NE, Pat McTaggart, Lakeland FL, Dan McTaggart, Wayne NE, John and Theresa McTaggart, Emerson NE, Barbara and Don Mueller, Earling IA, William and Janelle McTaggart, Hartington NE; and 19 nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Vincent and Catherine (Liewer) McTaggart; sister-in-law, Cheryl McTaggart; nephews, Mark McCarthy, Doug Temple, Matthew McTaggart, Eric and Brian McTaggart.
