Vern F. Mayberry, 77, of Winnebago, NE passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA. A memorial graveside service will be held on May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer, NE, with Military Honors by the Homer American Legion Post Harold Buckland #97. Memorials are suggested to the Homer American Legion in Homer, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.
Vern was born in Ponca, NE 1943. He graduated in 1960 from Winnebago. Vern was drafted to the Army and served in Germany from 1964-1965. He was an Honor Guard Marksman and was in the reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1969. He worked for the FSA, SC Stockyard, Ingerson Bros, Floyd Valley, and John Morrell Slaughter and Animal Feed where he retired from in 2010.
Vern married the love of his life, Mary Jo VanBuskirk, in 1968. Other loves of his life were farming, John Deer, the wrecks on Sunday (NASCAR), sports, and his cattle.
He was Survived by his Wife Mary Jo Mayberry. His Brother and his Wife Robert and Georgia Mayberry. His Grandchildren Michael Van Buskirk, Travis Van Buskirk, Kara Bohlke, and Jilyssa Brewer and 10 Great Grandchildren.
Vern was preceded in death by His Daughter Marsha Mayberry. His Father and Mother Harold “Bud” and Earlene Odle Mayberry and his two Brothers Terry and Everett Mayberry.
