Violet Joy (Gutzmann) Albrecht, 98, of Thurston, NE, passed away May 25, 2018 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson; with Pastor Gary Harris and Rev. Dr. Daniel Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Violet was born on September 26, 1919 on her parent’s farm South of Waterbury, Dixon County, NE the second of six children born to William H. and Ruby Violet (Rogers) Gutzmann. The family moved several times during her youth. They lived in Winside, NE, rural Hornick, IA, rural Jackson, NE, rural Waterbury, rural Dixon, NE, rural Hubbard, NE, and last moved to a farm four miles east of Emerson, NE, where Violet graduated from Emerson High School in 1937. She attended Wayne State College where she received her associate degree in education. She taught in rural schools by Winnebago, Thurston, and Emerson before her marriage to Walter. She was baptized on April 17, 1921 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church on April 14, 1935, in Hubbard. On June 24, 1942, Violet was united in marriage to Walter G. Albrecht at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. They purchased a farm next to his parents, eight miles southeast of Emerson. Six children were born to this family. She and Walter lived on their farm for 73 years; shortly after his death she went to reside at Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home. She held many positions of responsibility during her lifetime. As a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and past president and circle chairman of the women’s group. Violet worked for many years on the election board of the Merry Township, Thurston County, was a federal census taker, 4 H Club leader, and a longtime member and leader of the Happy Hour Club. She served as board treasurer for rural School District 24. Walter and Violet were honored for being members of the Thurston County Farm Bureau for several decades. She was devoted to her family, loved her farm, garden, flowers, cooking, and crocheting. She liked taking nature walks with her children and grandchildren, while showing them and naming the birds and flowers, she also liked to take them fishing in the farm ponds. She shared her deep Christian faith with her children and grand-children and taught them the importance of following the golden rule, keeping their word, and sharing work duties. She is survived by her six children; Judy Ann (Herb) Barelman of Bellevue, NE, Walter Richard Albrecht of Emerson, NE, Michael David (Joni) Albrecht of Thurston, NE, Robert William (Connie) Albrecht, Dr. James Loren (Kathy) Albrecht of Emerson, NE, and Terry Lee (Julie) Albrecht of Thurston, NE; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Dahms of rural Hornick, IA; many cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Albrecht of almost 73 years; parents; daughter-in-law, Mary (Mike) Albrecht; grandson, Aaron Albrecht (Terry and Julie); great grandson, Francis Albrecht (Tristan and Kara); brothers, William R. Gutzmann and his wife Elaine, Leslie Gutzmann and his wife Lavone, Lewis Gutzmann and his wife Eleanor, Leonard Gutzmann and his wife Donna Lou; brothers-in-law, George Albrecht and his wife Irene, Lester Albrecht and wife Joanne, Wayne Dahms; nieces, Patsy Gutzmann, Susan Dahms Streeter; nephews, Mark Dahms, Dennis Albrecht, and Larry Gutzmann.
